A loft is usually one large open space with few interior walls and a tall ceiling. The sleeping area may be a corner of the main room or a raised platform. The term is used loosely in listings, so ask which of these you are actually getting.

Who tends to like lofts

People who work or entertain at home and prefer one flexible room to several small ones. If you need quiet for calls while someone else sleeps or cooks, test the space with the people who will use it.
